Cupping, or "Fire Cupping", is the use of "cups" to create a vacuum and draw toxins out of the body. Unlike the original "cups" made from animal horns and bamboo, todays cups are clean, round glass orbs that feel great when applied. By quickly inserting and removing a small flame from inside the cup, and then placing the warm cup on the surface of the body, a vacuum is created that holds the cup in place. While it may look and sound strange, cupping can actually be a a very pleasant experience. It could almost be described as an "inside out massage." Cupping is great for fighting off colds, boosting the immune system, and relieving tense muscles.

Unlike an Adult session which lasts up to an hour, Pediatric sessions are much quicker due to the fact that the Qi of children is much more active and responsive, and getting an active young child to stay still for a long period of time is a challenge in and of itself. Generally, a Pediatric session will take anywhere from 15-30 minutes depending on the age of the child and the modalities used. For infants and small children, mostly Massage and a style of Acupressure known as Shoni Shin are used. It is rare to require actual Acupuncture at this stage of life, however a technique known as "contact needling" may be used in which the needle is held just on top of the skin, rather than being inserted. As a child grows older, Acupuncture may be introduced with needles only being retained in the skin for just a few minutes as opposed to the 30 or more minutes used with adults.

Once a child reaches puberty, they are old enough to withstand and benefit from a regular Acupuncture session.
